Trevor’s Travels: Trenton, NJ

by TrevorJune 3, 2016

Founded by Quakers in 1679, Trenton is one of the oldest cities in the U.S. and is a great place for people like me who love being immersed in history.

For example, you know that George Washington boldly crossed the icy Delaware to emerge victorious in battle during the American Revolution, but did you also know that infamous 1776 crossing led him to Trenton?

So, what is there in the city where the American Revolution turned for the better? Well, first there’s the Old Barracks Museum, one of the most interesting sites to visit in Trenton. Not only is it the only British barracks site remaining in North America, it’s also served as a military hospital and is the site of the Western world’s first mass-inoculation success story. Folks at the Old Barracks Museum don period attire, which lend to the tour’s authenticity.

Lee perceives himself as a storyteller. This video was selected for both its timing and exceptional comparative film quality.
Additionally, the video’s content was informative and intimate thanks to interviews with individuals closely tied to the museum.

Of course, there are other interesting museums around Trenton like the William Trent House Museum, the New Jersey State Museum, and the Meredith Havens Fire Museum.

Video created by: Visit New Jersey is a New Jersey travel site and YouTube channel that
publishes content regarding things to see, do, and eat in New Jersey. This video was selected because it provided the most well-produced
comprehensive perspective of what the museum has to offer.

I also liked seeing the artistic expressions around Trenton that honor the city’s rich history like the Grounds for Sculpture, Cadwalader Park, and the World War II Memorial.

There’s one more major part of Trenton’s history that you absolutely must sink your teeth into, and that’s Papa’s Tomato Pies. Established in 1912, Papa’s is the oldest, continuously operated pizza parlor in the U.S. Visiting Papa’s Tomato Pies gives new meaning to savoring history.

It’s part of Mercer County’s Hamilton Township and is extremely localized focusing on community news, sports, and social information.
This video was selected because of its comparatively high production quality and the overall presentation of information

While there’s a lot to enjoy about Trenton that’s rooted in the past, there are some great things happening now. For example, next time I’m in Trenton I’m paying a visit to culinary hotspot Trenton Social at least once or twice. If you’ve ever been to Trenton, I’m sure you agree with me there. What do you think? What’s happening in Trenton that you’d say is a must-see or must-do?
