Simple Ideas to Decorate Your Porch for Spring

by Karianne WoodMarch 20, 2017

It’s that time of year again. The time of year when spring arrives and the grass turns green and the flowers bloom and fluffy clouds dot the horizon and your porch calls your name. Time to clear off the leaves, sweep the floors, wash off the winter gloom and add a little sunshine to your outdoor spaces. Looking for porch decorating ideas?

Here are a few tips and a little inspiration to get you started.

Add indoor/outdoor fabrics

Indoor/outdoor fabrics come in a variety of patterns, colors, and textures. Adding textiles to a space creates the warmth of an indoor room in an outdoor setting. A bold graphic pattern like the one shown on these pillows layers in a pop of color on the porch. You can also add indoor/outdoor fabrics to a space with curtains, seat cushions, umbrellas and even basket liners. Make sure to spot clean the fabric to keep it stain-free.

Outdoor seating

Create different areas with different purposes on your porch to add even more uses for your outdoor space. A dining table and chairs with an umbrella for shade like this one makes dining al fresco, even more, fun. Add urns full of flowers, outdoor lighting and comfortable cushions to decorate the outdoor dining area for a one-of-a-kind summer dining experience.

Add fresh cut flowers

Shop your garden for porch table décor. It’s an easy way to add a centerpiece to your table for next-to-nothing. Fill a vase or mason jar with fresh cut flowers from the yard. Then, layer in twigs, branches, and greenery as a backdrop for the flowers. One quick tip for a professional looking arrangement: place tape in a criss-cross pattern across the top of the vase or jar. This allows flowers and greenery to stay in place in the arrangement.

Add an indoor/outdoor rug

When planning the décor for your porch or outdoor deck, don’t forget the floor. Indoor/outdoor rugs are an inexpensive option for furnishing an outdoor space. Many rugs come in large sizes, such as 9’x12’ or 8’x 10’ and provide a colorful foundation for outdoor furniture. Choose a simple pattern, such as a solid or stripe for overall graphic impact. Rugs like these can be sprayed off with water for easy cleaning.
