Hang Onto Your Hats – There’s More To Louisville Than The Kentucky Derby!

by Christelle HollomonMay 5, 2017

Betting, hats, juleps – it’s Derby weekend! The Kentucky Derby is an annual horse race that takes place in Louisville, Kentucky. The Derby attracts approximately 155,000 people each year, and has even claimed the title, “The Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports.” Even though the Kentucky Derby has made Louisville an exciting place for tourism, it has also become a great place to live all year round! Other than the Derby, Louisville is home to many delectable restaurants, amusement parks, and historical museums that have a one-of-a-kind southern charm. There’s no place like home… and there’s no place like Louisville, Kentucky. Here are some of the highlights if you’re ready to pack up and experience the Kentucky lifestyle!
Derby
If you’re looking for a local hotspot for entertainment, Louisville has got you covered. Head over to Fourth Street Live!, an entertainment and retail complex that hosts many restaurants, such as The Hard Rock Cafe, as well as a variety of bars and nightclubs for a full day of fun. While you’re there, don’t forget to try a Mint Julep – a mix of bourbon, water, crushed ice, and mint. The Mint Julep is the traditional beverage of the Kentucky Derby.

And if you’re into spooky things, head to Waverly Hills Sanatorium, a haunted closed-down hospital. It is believed to be one of the most haunted places in Kentucky. It’s open for ghost hunts, historical tours, and haunted house events.

Louisville also is also a great place to live for nature lovers. It is located right along the Ohio River, which is the largest tributary of the Mississippi River.
In short, Louisville may have grown around the horse racing industry, but it has far surpassed that to become a city for everyone! Looking to move south? Louisville is the place to be.
