The neighborhood of Chelsea is located on the West Side of the borough of Manhattan. While primarily residential, it is also home to many retail businesses that reflect the diversity of the population. To the north of Chelsea is the neighborhood of Clinton, also called Midtown West, but probably best known as Hell's Kitchen, and has long been a home to aspiring and practicing actors due to its close proximity to Broadway theatres as well as the Actors Studio school.
Chelsea is famous for having a diverse ethnic and social population, in addition to being one of Manhattan's central art districts, with over 200 galleries in the neighborhood. Clinton/Hell's Kitchen has long been a hub of the entertainment industry, with many famous names having called it home.
