One of the biggest allures of Albany, Georgia for those who call it home is the presence of its three universities: Albany State University, Darton State College and Albany Technical College. With so many opportunities for people to partake of higher education, it's no wonder that the population of the city's metro area currently stands at a little over 157,000 people. However, this rather large population has not managed to turn Albany into a crowded, gray cityscape. In fact, this city is well-known for its expertly preserved wildlife, particularly the trees growing along the streets, some of which are very old. This area has been a part of The Arbor Day Foundation's Tree City USA Program for twenty-eight years, and even has a certified arborist on staff.
