Albuquerque is considered to be one of the best cities for sweet desserts and food snobs, while it also makes the grade as a great place to ride your bike and stay healthy, well into your golden years. The city has been named one of the quirkiest, friendliest, and most charming cities in America, and it's also ranked as a "best value" for those who call it home. Oh, and these are just the nods from 2015. There's so much to do here that it's difficult to narrow it down, but the "Mother Road" seems like an excellent place to start. Of course, we're referring to Route 66. This famous highway was once the best way to traverse the country; it ran from Chicago all the way to the West Coast. It's since been deemed obsolete by our expansive interstate system, but the memory remains, and nowhere is that memory more potent than in Albuquerque. The city is home to one of the most vibrant remaining stretches of the fabled cross-country thoroughfare, complete with vintage motels, seedy tourist traps, and neon signs aplenty. For an eagle's eye view of Albuquerque and the surrounding landscape, take the Sandia Peak Tramway, where the 15-minute trip is full of excellent photo opportunities. Once you get to the top, enjoy the hiking trails or stop by the restaurant for a tasty meal with an unbeatable view. Fans of the hit TV show Breaking Bad will enjoy taking the ABQ Trolley tour of notable set locations, and science buffs will marvel at the wonders on display at Explora Science Center and Children's Museum.
