Arvada, Colorado, is a beautiful city in the northwest of the Denver Metro Area. Although Arvada was originally a settlement in its own right, today it is a suburb of Denver, with many of its 112,000 residents commuting to the city every day. Getting around Arvada is relatively easy, with a dependable public transit system and well-maintained city streets. Arvada has easy access to Interstates 70 and 76 as well as Interstate 25 and the Denver-Boulder Turnpike, making commuting to either Denver or Boulder easy and convenient. A light-rail line, the G or Gold Line, is scheduled to open in 2016. The G Line will connect Arvada with Wheat Ridge to the west, run east toward Pecos Junction and finally south all the way to Denver's Union Station. At Union Station, riders can get connections all over Denver through the Regional Transportation District (RTD) or board Amtrak's California Zephyr to either Chicago or San Francisco.
Arvada offers plenty of community and cultural activities all year long. Some of the happenings for kids and families include the annual Sand in the City "Beach Party," complete with a sand sculpture contest and carnival area, and the Arvada Harvest Festival. Two major centers for arts and activities are the Apex Center and the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities. The Apex Center is a 23,000-square-foot indoor water park and activity center, with water slides, a lap pool, a water playground, hot tubs and a vortex pool. The Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities is one of the largest multidisciplinary arts centers in the country. The Center features two theatre venues, three galleries, dozens of classes and workshops and meeting and banquet facilities. Olde Town Arvada, which is the most walkable neighborhood in town, features a quaint town square with a weekly seasonal farmers' market and an impressive public library.
