Baltimore is the largest of the only three U.S. cities that exist independent of a county. The landscape of the city features several other noteworthy museums, the aforementioned aquarium, a thriving opera, symphony, and theater scene, as well as the Ravens of the National Football League, the Orioles of Major League Baseball, and several college and minor league sports franchises, each with their own legendary fan base. Baltimore boasts several excellent research universities and colleges as well, including Johns Hopkins, Loyola University Maryland, Baltimore International College, among others. The local economy is currently primarily driven by the service sector, but with a tech boom well underway, the lasting effects of Baltimore's deindustrialization may be coming to a close.
