Much like the rest of Missouri, Blue Springs is mostly an outdoor kind of place. There are nearly two dozen parks with functions such as walking trails, dog runs and historic tours. The largest is Fleming Park which has two lakes and covers over 7,000 acres of land. Inside the park is a 30-acre outdoor history museum called Missouri Town 1855, and a nature reserve for native hoofed animals. With so many outdoor activities, it's no wonder Blue Springs has been home to many athletes, including Ladell Betts of the New Orleans Saints, Olympic Gymnast Courtney McCool, and professional bodybuilder Tonya Knight.
