Boise is comprised of eleven main urban areas, each of which is made up of several smaller neighborhoods. Downtown Boise includes the 8th Street pedestrian commercial zone, the city's Basque Block, several green spaces, the Idaho State Capitol, and many other businesses and company headquarters. Just to the south of the downtown area is Boise State University, with its campuses and surrounding student-oriented businesses. The North End is known for its quiet, tree-lined streets and neighborhoods. The Boise Highlands is known for its 1970s construction and the Crane Creek golf course. Southwest Boise is known for newer construction, ease of freeway access to Interstate 84, and its commercial avenues. Northwest Boise is an area made up of older neighborhoods and newer construction. Warm Springs and East End are known for the homes left behind by the wealthy miners and businessmen that dominated the local economy at the turn of the twentieth century. East Boise and Harris Ranch feature some of the latest developments in the city. Southeast Boise is a suburban style neighborhood sandwiched between the university and the interstate. The Bench, like the North End, is made up of older homes in classic architecture styles and West Boise is known for its status as a commercial hub.
