Boise's diverse neighborhoods provide a range of options for every lifestyle. East End and Warm Springs Avenue features large Victorian homes, some of which were built shortly before the 20th century. The streets are lined with mature trees, adding to the traditional appeal. This area is close to many of Boise's main attractions, including the Botanical Gardens and the Old Idaho Penitentiary. West Boise is further from the city and includes more modern suburban communities. The area borders on Meridian, a town that has seen enormous growth in recent years. Community perks include a local YMCA, a large assortment of restaurants and retail developments, and close proximity to The Village, a charming outdoor mall with a central "town square". This recent addition to Meridian features an ice rink during the winter, frequent colorful fountain performances, a play structure for small children, and comfy outdoor seating with fire pits. The surrounding dining and shopping opportunities allow for an eventful evening or afternoon on the town.
