Originally a part of a land grant to a citizen by Spain, the area around Bryan was settled in the mid-1800s. In 1871 the city was incorporated, and by 1889 had electric lighting and a waterworks in its community, keeping Bryan successfully caught up with technological advances in the rest of the country. The city's landscape consists of around 44 square miles, and its central location makes it equidistant from three of Texas' largest cities, including Houston, San Antonio, and Dallas. The local climate is subtropical, meaning Bryan's winters are exceptionally mild with snow and ice barely making an appearance. Summers consist of warm and hot weather, perfect for those looking to spend some time in the outdoor sunshine.
