Its motto is "Michigan's Community of Vision," and Canton, Michigan, lives up to the hype. The charter township tucked comfortably within Michigan's Lower Peninsula's Wayne County is among the fastest-growing communities in the entire state and region, and its burgeoning real estate scene and ample available properties provide further evidence of exactly why that is the case.

The Canton area covers 36 square miles, with many of those miles broken up into historic neighborhoods. Sheldon, which is sometimes referred to as Sheldon's Corners, is a historic community in south Canton named for New York state transplants Timothy and Rachael Sheldon. The pair settled in the area after construction completed on what is now U.S. 12, and they helped create the historic settlement that boasted a schoolhouse, two churches, two general stores and several service businesses including that of a cobbler and a blacksmith. With the widening of Michigan Avenue the look and feel of the Sheldon's Corners area has changed somewhat, but it is still listed as a Michigan State Historic Site and it still beckons history buffs and newcomers alike thanks to its remaining historic structures mixed in with its more modern homes and conveniences.
