Cathedral City, California is known for being the second largest city in the Coachella Valley, or Palm Springs area. It is situated between Palm Springs and Rancho Mirage, meaning you never have to go far for big city chains or franchises. Southwestern culture is visible all over this valley city, with many homes sporting a Spanish villa style. Despite being incorporated less than 30 years ago, there are also homes built in the colonial style.

The locals call this "Cat City," but it's full name was inspired by the nearby Cathedral Canyon. This natural canyon has been decorated in a rambling way with various religious and secular icons which are lit up at night with multicolored spot lights. The original name for the canyon comes from the rocky spires along its walls which reminded explorers of European cathedrals. Near the canyon is also a challenging golf course. Other courses include the Cimarron Golf Resort and the Date Palm Country Club.
Although it's about 2 hours away, the glitter of Hollywood has touched Cathedral City and the surrounding Coachella Valley in many ways. More than 200 movies have been filmed in this valley since the early 1900s, as well as a variety of television shows. Even a few radio shows were broadcast from nearby locations. Some famous personalities that have lived in Cathedral City include Suzanne Somers, Martin Landau and Monty Hall. The nearby Desert Memorial Park cemetery even features Frank Sinatra's grave, as well as the burial site of famous singer-songwriter Sonny Bono. But all this face hasn't gone to "Cat City's" head, it's still a great, down-to-earth, small town in which to raise your family or retire in comfort.
