Located in Erie County, Cheektowaga is the second largest suburb of Buffalo, New York. The town's 88,000 residents live in homes ranging from million-dollar estates to affordable one- and two-bedroom apartments and townhouses. First incorporated in 1839, Cheektowaga is a puzzle of former villages, townships and settlements, some of which date back to precolonial times, when the area was ruled by the Seneca tribe of the Iroquois Nation. The name Cheektowaga derives from the Erie-Seneca word meaning "place of the crabapple tree."

The geography of Cheektowaga and Erie County ensure there is plenty to see and do. Three creeks run through Cheektowaga, the largest of which, Cayuga Creek, borders Cheektowaga Town Park, near the center of town, before meeting the Buffalo River and eventually contributing to the waters of Lake Erie. With Lake Erie to the west, Lake Ontario to the north, and a number of smaller lakes dotting the landscape to the east, paddling, fishing and boating are popular activities among the area's residents. The Cabela's outdoor company chose to open their first New York location in Cheektowaga in 2014, further attesting to the outdoorsy spirit of the area. Niagara Falls, only 25 miles northwest of town, is a major tourist attraction. There is a border crossing into Canada at Niagara, from which visitors from Cheektowaga and neighboring areas can follow the coast of Lake Ontario to the large and dynamic metropolis of Toronto for a weekend getaway to a first-class international city. A number of ski hills operate in the area surrounding Cheektowaga, too, giving locals plenty of reason to get outside during the winter.
