The city's children attend Decatur City Schools, first going to one of 12 elementary schools before moving on to one of three middle schools, and finally, to either Decatur High School or Austin High School. Decatur has only one college in city limits, John C Calhoun State Community College, but the University of Alabama in Huntsville is just 22 miles away, making it an easy commute for area residents.
