Encinitas consists of five distinctive communities that were officially culminated together in 1986 when it was incorporated. These communities are still known as Cardiff-by-the-Sea, Leucadia, Olivenhain, New Encinitas, and Old Encinitas. They have each retained their specific cultures and flavors while also being part of a bigger and beautiful community as a whole. Each of the communities is part of the six-mile stretch of the stunning coastline along the Pacific Ocean. The population of Encinitas was 59,518 according to the 2010 census. The name "Encinitas" translates as "little oaks" in Spanish.
