Fuquay-Varina is a thriving, modern town comprised of two historic towns: Fuquay Springs and Varina. Fuquay Springs, once touted as a place of healing because of its mineral spring waters, was incorporated in 1909 and its town limits included the part of neighboring Varina. Although Varina continued to grow in its own right, in 1963 the two towns officially merged into Fuquay-Varina. Fuquay-Varina is considered to be part of the greater Raleigh region and the "triangle area" of North Carolina, encompassing the cities of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill. The area's history revolves around the cultivation of tobacco and the tourism industry that grew up around the mineral springs. Today, new developments mix with historical buildings in this charming town.
