The Port of Galveston is a large shipping yard that handles all sorts of cargo while also acting as a cruise ship terminal for cruise ships operating in the Caribbean. One of the largest life insurance companies in the United States, American National Insurance Company, is located in Galveston, and the city is also home to many of the largest teaching hospitals in the state of Texas, including the University of Texas Medical Branch. The university alone continues to see significant growth and employs a large number of people in the city.
