Historically speaking, Greensboro's economic health has been tied to three industries - namely, tobacco, furniture manufacturing, and the production of textiles. The city's contemporary economy is far more diversified, however, and based largely in the transportation sector, with FedEx running a regional hub in the area. Some of the area's other large-scale employers include the county school system, Cone Health, the city government, the United States Postal Service, the county government, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, High Point Regional Health System, Bank of America, American Express, and TE Connectivity. The city has a wealth of cultural and entertainment options for residents to use when passing their leisure time. The city hosts the acclaimed annual Eastern Music Festival, is home to the Witherspoon Art Museum, and boasts its own ballet, youth symphony, choral society, youth chorus, concert band, community theatre companies, and a wide variety of other arts organizations and institutions. If sports is more your thing, though, the area is also home to a minor league baseball team, a top-level amateur soccer team, a women's roller derby team, and hosts several college and other sports tournaments in any given year. Greensboro is also only an hour away from Raleigh, North Carolina and the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League, the Charlotte Hornets of the National Basketball Association, the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League, several annual NASCAR events, and a great many other minor league sports franchises.
