Just ten years after being settled, Maryville was incorporated in 1795 and is now the seat of Blount County. It is situated in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains with a prominent ridge-line, known as The Three Sisters, visible from nearly everywhere in the city limits. A place this old has a lot of history, and it can be seen at the two main museums in Maryville, Cades Cove Museum and the Blounts County Historical Museum. Tours are also available to see the local wildlife, both on land and under water with the Brother Bear Excursions and Rhea's Diving Services.
The lush greenery of Maryville just begs to be explored, which is why there are so many walking, biking and hiking trails both in town and in the surrounding area. One of the more popular routes is the Maryville Alcoa Greenway which has more than 8 miles of trail with a couple of places to stop, eat and play. As the name suggests, the trail takes you to another nearby city, Alcoa. But this isn't the only trail, there's also the Greenbelt, Pearson and Sandy Springs Parks. Other outdoor activities include Blue Goose Farm and Vineyards and the Lambert Acres Golf Course.
