The educational prospects of Middleton have been expanding due to a growing population. Public education is provided by the Appoquinimink School District, which recently had to build a new elementary school as well as a new high school in order to accommodate over-crowding. Three private schools offer a different style of education for children, and Wilmington University has a location in town. St. Andrew's School, which is a co-ed boarding school, has been used in multiple film features including the 1989 Dead Poets Society with Robin Williams and the television show The West Wing. Watermelon Crawl was also filmed in Middleton in 2007, keeping this Delaware town present in the theater scene. Middleton has its own community newspaper which also covers the Odessa and Townsend area. Its name is The Middleton Townscript and it has the prestige of having been printed such 1868.
