There is a myriad of opportunities for outdoor recreation in and around Missoula, which is surrounded by mountains and national forest lands. The Rattlesnake National Recreation Area, part of the larger Lolo National Forest, is four miles north of the city and is a popular destination for hiking and other backcountry adventures. Within the city limits, there are numerous parks, 22 miles of trails and even two waterparks. Along the popular riverfront trail, Caras Park offers a downtown gathering spot complete with carousel and large playgrounds. The Missoula downtown farmers market is all the rage, running Saturday morning and Tuesday evening, and offering produce and other goods from over 100 vendors.

The city of Missoula lies amid the rugged beauty and outdoor culture of western Montana.
