Archaeology buffs will love exploring Moreno Valley's nearly 200 prehistoric locations. This city has quite the history, and most of it is tied into the milling stations that used to be scattered amongst the CA landscape. There are also pictographs and petroglyphs dating back centuries, and if you look closely at the boulders in the surrounding hills, you will see what archaeologists call "cupules," which are cup-shaped holes prehistoric civilizations pounded into the rocks. Of course, the area is also rich in Spanish, Native American and military history. In fact, World War II pilots were trained at March Air Force Base, which now serves as a Joint Air Reserve Base and Air Force Reserve Command Base and employs both civilian and non-civilian locals. Military history is showcased at the March Field Air Museum located on the base, which is open to visitors every day but Monday.
Residents and visitors find it easy to travel in and out of Moreno Valley via the Southern California MetroLink rail, and CalTrans and Riverside and Orange counties are currently debating plans to build a four-lane thoroughfare between two major interstate routes, 15 and 215. Baseball fans will recognize famous Moreno Valley High School alumni Troy Percival, former closer for the 2002 World Series Champion Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim and a notable Moreno Valley, CA native. Corporate and industrial business parks have given rise to employment in the area, and 35,000 students attend Moreno Valley's 35 schools. College students have their choice of higher education at Riverside Community College, Chapman University, or the nearby University of California, Riverside and California State University, San Bernardino campuses among others. With so many affordable housing options, plenty of employment opportunities, and countless schools ready to aptly educate your children, it is no wonder this Southern CA town has been booming since the 1980s.
