Mount Pleasant, SC, has been listed in the top 100 places to live in the country by Money magazine. This isn't really surprising because many of the homes in this city are situated in family-friendly, diverse neighborhoods with stunning views of the marsh and river. Adding to this is the affordable median home price, which sits around $350,000, and the fact that it was ranked the ninth-fastest-growing city in the country in the 2013 U.S. Census.

Access to the city is made possible by the spectacular Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge, which was built in 2005 and is one of the longest cable-stayed bridges in the United States. Due to its location across the river from Charleston, the homes in this area used to be reserved only for the most prestigious Charleston residents, who typically used them as summer homes. This is still apparent in the Old Village area, where many original homes from the 1800s are found. Most popular is the Boone Hall Plantation, which features the breathtaking Avenue of Oaks. This plantation was also the setting for the 2004 blockbuster movie The Notebook. If you are curious about how old the homes in this area are, you'll be pleased to know that the oldest one is the Hibben House, which was built by Jacob Motte in 1755. This rich, historic background draws people to the city.
