Mount Pocono was once a mountain retreat with railroad access to New York City and the popular honeymoon resort of Mount Airy Lodge. The railroad station and the famous hotel with the heart shaped bathtubs are no more, but in its place is the beautiful Mount Airy Casino, which opened in 2007 after gambling became legal in Pennsylvania. With the backdrop of the mountains, Mount Pocono continues to be a popular tourist destination but also offers the kinds of conveniences and amenities to make it a wonderful place to live. Many major national and regional shopping outlets and restaurants can be found there, as well as public transportation through the Monroe County transit Authority. Mount Pocono is also close to two airports and has a municipal airport in town.
