Bordered by the Cumberland River on the north and west, Old Hickory has transformed since its beginnings. Today the area is marked by large golf courses, a country club, a Chamber of Commerce, and the DuPont plant which, though almost shut-down, still manages to support a few employees. The area continues to remember its history through the preservation of historic homes. The Village of Old Hickory contains a majority of these buildings, most of which have been listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Houses in need of repair have been taken on for renovation and restoration. Being a resident of Old Hickory means being part of a community that truly cares about the town's past and current upkeep. There are organizations and neighborhoods deeply dedicated to enhancing everyday life. With all the charm of a small town, Old Hickory is a community through and through.
