Palm Springs is located 123 miles southeast of Los Angeles in Coachella Valley, part of California's Riverside County. The city has a population of roughly 46,000 spread out over 94 square miles. Since 2000, the number of inhabitants has increased by about 8 percent. Downtown Palm Springs features numerous fine and casual restaurants, as well as plenty of shopping destinations. Other notable points in the downtown area include the Hard Rock Hotel Palm Springs, several spas, the Spa Resort Casino, the Agua Caliente Cultural Museum and the Palm Springs Walk of the Stars. The city's 33 neighborhoods include several of historical note, including the Movie Colony, Warm Sands, Las Palmas, Sunmor Estates and the Mesa.
