In 2005 and 2009, Peachtree City was ranked eighth on Money magazine's list of 100 Best Places to Live in the U.S. It was also ranked the number one "Best Places to Raise Kids" in Georgia by Bloomberg Business Week in 2012. Neither of these are surprising, given Peachtree City's excellent school system, high percentage of college-educated residents, mild climate, and natural beauty. Also, most of the houses are single-family dwellings in suburban settings, which most people consider the ideal place to raise children. Another interesting thing about Peachtree City is its abundance of golf carts. More than 9,000 households own one, and the police use them to patrol the more than 90 miles of golf cart paths. Children over 12 may operate one, and the carts are used as a form of transportation. You can access nearly every area of the city by golf cart. No matter what neighborhood you live in, you'll have quick access to golf courses and carts alike.
All of Peachtree City's neighborhoods boast newer, upscale homes. But some of the most expensive ones can be found in the neighborhoods of Shake Rag and Starrs Mill. Shake Rag is on the north end of town and has an average home price of $519,000.00, making it one of the most expensive neighborhoods in the country. Its houses are mostly newer, with four or more bedrooms on large lots, although it also contains some high rise apartments. Starrs Mill is on the south side of the city and has an average housing price of $438,000.00, making this one of the most affluent neighborhoods in the country, as well. Like Shake Rag, it has many newer homes with four or more bedrooms, but also some smaller, more established homes with 4 or fewer bedrooms. Starrs Mill has the distinction of being the only neighborhood in the country made up of 100% single-family houses. While not all this expensive, all of Peachtree City's neighborhoods are upper-middle class, boasting low crime rates and predominantly owner-occupied houses. It is a wonderful place to live and raise a family.
