Present day Pigeon Forge was originally a Cherokee hunting ground. A path called the Indian Gap Trail allowed travelers to cross the Smoky Mountains from North Carolina to what is now Sevierville. This path eventually attracted European settlers who would later claim the area for their own. Nestled in the Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge has become a popular destination for vacationers looking for a mountain getaway. The area is equally as enticing for residents, too. The activity selection is virtually endless. Residents and visitors alike can choose from arcades, adventure raceways, miniature golf, riverboats, and rafting. Evening entertainment includes a variety of dinner shows, live music performances, and dinner shows. Because the city is grounded so strongly in tourism, a majority of the accommodations include cabins, bed and breakfasts, and hotels.
