With a name like Plant City, you can bet this town is home to something special. The city is known as the world's winter strawberry capital. Every year, it hosts the Florida Strawberry Festival in February or early March. People from all over the United States come to Plant City to indulge in the freshest of strawberry produce. Wishnatzki Farms is the state's largest strawberry producer and the company has a strong presence in the city. Since it's the world's winter strawberry capital, it's safe to say the region has mild winters. The region is considered to have a humid subtropical climate. Even in the middle of winter, the city's average temperature is about 61 degrees Fahrenheit.
The city's population is right around 30,000 citizens according to the most recent census. The region has a fairly diverse population and a great education system. There are a number of charter, public and private schools that serve the city. There are three public high schools that serve the area and three middle schools. There are many private and/or religious educational options for young students of elementary school age. Notably, the region is home to one of the handful of Dinosaur World locations, a chain of outdoor dinosaur theme parks. It features over 150 life-sized sculptures. There are also a number of parks in town and the surrounding area including: Alderman's Ford Park, Edward Medard Park and Reservoir, Aldermand's Ford Park and Alafia River State Park. Additionally, the town is home to a number of nationally registered historic places like Bing Rooming House, Hillsboro State Bank Building, Historic Turkey Creek High School, Downtown Plant City Commercial District and Downtown Plant City Historic Residential District. Officially, Plant City is sister cities with Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. With so much history and a rich strawberry culture, Plant City is a great place to settle down and enjoy a little fresh fruit.
