Located in Hillsborough County near Brandon, Florida, Riverview is classified as an unincorporated census-designated place. The area possesses a population of 71,050. With a population largely made up of families and couples, the area is a large suburb of Tampa, Gibsonton, and Ruskin. People first settled the area in the 1830s. It was officially founded in 1883, and it encompasses one of Central Florida's oldest settlements. Over the following century, the city continued to grow and encompass a number of original settlements. In 1921, the area became the location for Florida's first commercial poultry farm. Today the area covers 9.2 square miles of land. The diversity of the population has been steadily increasing since the immigration explosion in the last decade.
The Bell Creek Nature Preserve, a 597 acre nature sanctuary, is located in the area, and it is home to a number of habitats including scrub, flatwoods, sandhill and grassland, and the endangered wildflower, the Florida golden aster, can be found in the area. There are also a number of other species that the organization works to protect including the Florida sandhill crane and the gopher tortoise. Visitors to the wildlife sanctuary can enjoy the outdoors hiking and biking through the area. They also offer group guided tours and educational resources. The Alafia, a 25-mile long river, runs through the region and to Tampa Bay. The watershed also includes a number of canals, streams, rivers, ponds and lakes. Locals enjoy the expansive waterways with many activities like kayaking, paddle boarding, boating and swimming. Nearby Tampa broadcasts much of their television and radio from the area, and residents of Riverview can enjoy numerous activities in the Tampa Area. The city of Tampa boasts a number of Museums and theater arts centers for culture and art buffs, and it is home to a number of major athletic teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Tampa Bay Lightening. These events are only a short drive from Riverview. Additionally, as the area has grown it offers a wide variety of impressive restaurants and shopping. Students in the area attend the local school district, which includes two high schools, and there are a number of colleges and universities available in near by cities. With a natural backdrop, the quiet suburban area is the perfect place to settle.
