Rogers was officially established with the arrival of the Frisco Railway line in 1881, and was named after Captain Warrington Rogers. The city's history is deeply rooted in retail and commerce. In 1884, its first retail store, Stroud's Mercantile, was opened, and quickly became a central fixture in the area. While the store was later closed in 1993, Rogers has remained a central location for commerce. The first Wal-Mart was opened in the area, and the headquarters are housed in nearby Benton. The air rifle company, Daisy Outdoor Products, is also headquartered in the region, and Rogers is home to their Air Rifle Museum. Additionally, there are two large shopping malls (Pinnacle Hills Promenade and Frisco Station Mall) that provide a range of shopping options. Commerce is a major contributor to the area's economy, and the Rogers Commercial Historic District stands as a tribute to the city's history.
