Saint Clair Shores has a long history; the area was inhabited by French settlers as early as 1710. An amusement park was built here in 1927 and boasted the longest roller coaster in the country. Sadly, a 1955 fire destroyed many of the park's buildings and in time the property was converted to a marina. In fact, you can visit the city's 'Nautical Mile' to find other marinas and boat dealers, plus popular restaurants and retail shops. The freshwater lake that beckons boating enthusiasts lies between Michigan and the Canadian Province of Ontario. Discovered by European explorers, it is part of the Great Lakes system.
