Although many residents commute to jobs outside of San Leandro, the city is home to a number of well-known corporate entities, such as Ghirardelli, Coca-Cola and JanSport, providing an abundance of employment opportunities in both manufacturing and production. Other major industries include health and educational services, where employees can exercise the knowledge they have obtained at nearby academic institutions. Students can attend private local campuses like Carrington College or the Northern California Institute of Cosmetology, but there are many more options nearby. As a matter of fact, more than a half dozen universities are spread throughout Hayward, Oakland and Berkeley only several minutes away.
