Divided into three districts, Staten Island is home to more than 473,000 residents. The island has gained a reputation for having a thriving arts scene as more artists, filmmakers and musicians move there, especially its North Shore. The island has several museums, including the Staten Island Children's Museum, the Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art and the Staten Island Botanical Garden. Historic Richmond Town is a living history museum that showcases the island's storied past with some 30 historic buildings dating from the 17th century to the early 20th century. Dubbed the "greenest borough," Staten Island has more than 12,300 acres of parkland and more than 170 parks. Depending on the season, Staten Island parks provide a place to ice skate, ride horses, kayak and more.
