Named for Zachary Taylor, the decorated military hero who would go on to become the twelfth president, the community is rich in history. The area has seen much in the way of metropolitan expansion and contraction as a suburb of Detroit, and is known for its strong feel of community and robust support of youth sporting and little league programs. The popular Heritage Park, adjacent to the Wayne County Community College, is a major venue for youth sports, such as baseball and soccer. The facility also offers a petting zoo, historic buildings, a catch and release fishing pond, a playground and more. Several other parks and two golf clubs offer residents ample opportunity for outdoor recreation.
