The Cahaba River rambles through the city along serene and pleasant tree-lined streets. One of the major points of interests is the Cahaba Village historic district. The Mall in the center of the district is a central green space that was patterned after the Mall in Washington, D.C. Four major shopping centers with nationally-known retailers are in town, along with four local hotels with restaurants nearby. Trussville is known particularly for its barbecue and its antique shops. The public library was last expanded in 1997, and a pedestrian bridge provides access to this, the community center and the mall. A two-mile-long lighted walking and biking trail long the Cahaba River is also popular.

Recognized as one the most livable cities in Alabama and in the United States, Trussville, Alabama, was named one of the best towns for young families by NerdWallet and one of the ten best places to live near Birmingham, Alabama, by Movoto Real Estate. There are primarily single family homes, along with duplexes and triplexes in the 22 square miles of this city that is known for its homey, community feeling.
