Provo is by far the largest city in the region, as well as the county seat. An historically Mormon town, Provo is home to Brigham Young University. Still 98% Mormon, the city is known for its culture of strong family values and a socially conservative population.What Utah County may lack in human diversity, it more than makes up for in biological assortment. The lush meadows, mountains and lakes within Utah County are a nature enthusiast's dream. Utah's reputation as a hiker's haven is well-deserved, and the towns of Lehi, Cedar Fort and Fairfield are mere minutes from some of America's most stunning landscapes. Alpine is an aptly-named mountain town with close access to state parks, but also an arts center, multiple city parks, and an arboretum. Towns like Alpine, Springville and Lehi offer comfortable and affordable new homes in very good school districts.
The majority of the economy in Utah County is driven by businesses in Provo. The number one employer is Brigham Young University, a highly ranked school with a largely Mormon student body. Also affiliated with the Mormon church, the Missionary Training Center employs 1,000-4,000 people, or roughly the same amount as the university. Nu Skin Enterprises and Ancestry.com are both Provo-based businesses that account for a few thousand of the jobs available in the region. Lying just south of Provo, Springville contains a small industrial park that houses such companies as Stouffer's and digEcor. The economy in Utah County is consistently productive, though largely driven by a single entity. Faced with some of the nation's most picture-perfect scenery at every corner, it remains a very attractive area for people to settle.
