In addition to having access to Portland, there is plenty to see and do in Vancouver. A downtown revitalization project which began in 1997 has seen the construction of several new commercial and residential buildings in the area. The Fort Vancouver Regional Library District opened a new, award-winning library in 2011. Other planned projects include the Prestige Plaza, a six-story mixed-use building comprised of condominiums and offices; a Waterfront Redevelopment plan envisions a stretch of small and larger retail, housing, parks and walkways along the Columbia River. Vancouver provides many other recreational activities as well, including bike trails, Summer Concerts, picnicking at one of the city's parks, fitness and educational centers and more. And if you're looking to head to the ocean, it is a mere 90-minute drive to the Pacific and the closest beaches.
