Virginia Beach runs from the border of Norfolk, around Cape Henry and all the way down to the North Carolina border. It's a cultural hotspot destination with over 30 miles of direct Atlantic coastline. Two- and three-bedroom homes comprise much of the local real estate, and investors are developing a variety of modern townhome and condo communities at every end of town.

Virginia Beach was established in 1963 and was further divided into seven distinct boroughs: Pungo, Virginia Beach, Lynnhaven, Bayside, Princess Anne, Kempsville and Blackwater. Virginia Beach to the north is the largest borough and includes the affluent neighborhood of Alanton. Green Run is an older area with a number of townhome developments, condo projects and apartment communities, while neighboring Aragona Village is the largest subdivision in Eastern Virginia. Residents of these northern developments enjoy easy access to the Naval base and the city's most popular cultural attractions. Shoppers will find larger parcels as they head down towards False Cape and the Military Aviation Museum. Pungo and Princess Anne are some the city's largest neighborhoods. Real estate in this area ranges from old colonial mansions to stylish townhomes to affordable 1990s condos. Much of the commercial property in this area is devoted to government buildings, including City Hall, the courthouse and the Virginia Beach Municipal Center.
Tourism employs a large percentage of the local workforce. The town's major convention center has been hosting a variety of events since it opened in 2005. As with many mid-size cities, the largest number of jobs is in retail, particularly out of Lynnhaven Mall. The city is also known for agribusiness and is home to several major U.S. military bases and a major international shipbuilder. Big area employers include Amerigroup, GEICO, Navy Exchange Service Command and Virginia Beach City Public Schools. The city's walkability and mild winter climate mean year-round opportunities for current and prospective residents.
