The surrounding Lakeland area is known for its agricultural industry regarding citrus. Winter Haven is just to the east of Lakeland. It's also located between Orlando and Tampa Bay but with much lower housing costs. This has caused it to become a resort city and makes for a great location. The city was incorporated in 1923 and began growing substantially after World War II. During this time there were many elegant single-family homes that were built with a colonial revival style. These are located in the historical Interlaken neighborhood. Winter Haven is home to several other historical neighborhoods including Winter Haven Heights, Pope Avenue, and downtown. There are plenty of pleasant neighborhoods to live in with a cost of living that is significantly lower than the national average.
