Brewster, or actually the Town of Southeast has some of the lowest taxes in Putnam County. This is a result of the commercial property located in the town, particularly that area near the highway at Route 312 which includes Home Depot, Kohls, NYSEG, Unilock etc. These commercial properties help keep the taxes down and as they are next to the highway, they don't disturb the character of the town.

The homes for sale including the information about taxes is entered by a community realtor after the seller agrees to list the property for sale. It is expected that the information be accurate but when it does not appear as such is better to contact the listing agent for clarification. In the specific concern of the taxes if there are still questions, the best thing to do is to contact the Town Tax Collector, they have accurate and up to date information. My advise is that you do not buy a home unless all your questions are answered with facts by a Professional Realtor and you have good legal advise during the closing of the transaction.

I understand what property taxes are and that they vary, but on all the listings for Brewster area on homes dot com ALL the figures are grossly understated. The same homes on other sites show property taxes twice as high.
You will find that property taxes will vary from area to area. In one city they could be paid monthly and the city next door could pay quarterly. It is most driven by the aminities in the area and how much money is needed to keep the city running. As far as website mistakes, they are driven from the Local MLS system, which should be very close to the correct information or some site may estimate them. Get with a local realtor and they should be able to provide you with the correct tax info. Good Luck.
