Properties that are listed like that are generally auctions and I know of only one property ever that sold for one dollar. It was a very rich couple who were divorcing and the man was to sell the property and split the proceeds with the ex wife. He sold for $1 and gave her 50 cents I guess...that story made its way around the internet about 5 or 6 years ago.
Remember that ANY property is an asset and banks or owners are generally not going to GIVE something away for nothing. There are lots of scam infomercials claiming that this is a real thing that happens and although we have quite a few properties listed in our local Houston MLS for $1, they will never sell for that, it will be auction/multiple offer drive the price up to market value type sale.
