Why would a home say PENDING on realtors website but showing it's scheduled for the sheriffs auction next month? Is it not available?

Some homes are for sale during a foreclosure and the foreclosing lender still continues with the foreclosure. If an offer is accepted and the lender agrees that the proceeds will cover the debt, the home is pending and not available for sale. If the sale closes before the sheriff sale, the sheriff cancels the sale. The the closing does not take place by the sheriff sale, the sheriff has the authority to sell it to another buyer at the sheriff sale and the accepted contract is void.
