This is a critical concern considering the plethora of potential challenges when doing this type of transaction. If the agent has short sale designations (those alphabet soup looking characters behind their name) it would indicate the agent has taken additional focused training in assorted areas to bring their expertise and ability to serve their clients to a higher level. Short sale designations include: CDPE - Certified Short Sale Expert / Five Star CSSS - Certified Short Sale Specialist / CSSA - Certified Short Sale Agent / CFA - Certified Foreclosure Agent / PSC - Pre-foreclosure Specialist Certification / SFR - Short Sale & Foreclosure Resource Certification, to name a few of the top ones. Also, keep in mind a short sale may NOT be the best option available to you. With that in mind, when you are interviewing the agent, pick one that is open minded to the other options available (and actually knows about them) so you can make an intelligent decision based on all the facts, not emotion or a lack of information.
