Montgomery County sits to the north of Washington, DC and is home to some of the most expensive real estate in Maryland. Cities within the county include Gaithersburg, Rockville, Tacoma, and Chevy Chase. It is an important area for business and research, particularly in the field on biotechnology. The county has a storied history and is home to many significant historical sites. It is a large county and encompasses many DC suburbs. Some of the cities that are located in Prince George's County are Bowie, College Park, Laurel, Greenbelt, and Hyattsville. Further east lies Anne Arundel County, along the western bank of the Chesapeake Bay and home to the state's capital, Annapolis. To the north is the city of Baltimore, an independent city, not to be confused with Baltimore County, which lies just outside of Baltimore proper. The county stretches from Baltimore to the northernmost part of the state. It is the third most populous county in Maryland and is close to all the amenities that Baltimore has to offer.
