A warm welcome to Texas Hill Country

About 10 miles north of downtown Austin, scenic nature and river views are the norm in Shepherd Mountain, offering residents a warm welcome to the great outdoors. “The hills, the views and the mature trees are all big selling points for the community,” says Rebecca Jacks, CEO of Eleven Oaks Realty. “You can find larger homes than what you’d find in some surrounding communities, and it’s close to the Texas 360 and Ranch Road 2222, so it’s great for commuters, too.”

Nature hikes at Bull Creek District Park

Residents looking to spend the day outdoors are just minutes from Lake Austin, and there are plenty of parks and trails nearby as well. Emma Long Metropolitan Park spans over 12 acres, with several trailheads, campsites and docks. The neighborhood is also minutes from the Bull Creek District Park, a popular spot for a quick hike or a relaxing day on the creek. Across Lake Austin, members of the Austin Country Club can play on the 180-acre, Pete Dye-designed 18-hole course.

Spacious hillside homes with beautiful nature vistas

Though Shepherd Mountain is small, the community is clustered with eye-catching single-family homes, most offering great views of Lake Austin and the city skyline. Houses tend to be priced between $1 million and $3 million. Some of the spacious estates feature hints of Mediterranean-style architecture, with red-tile roofing. “Though home prices are higher than the average for Austin, the prices are on the lower end for homes in surrounding neighborhoods,” Jacks says.
