At the confluence of the Platte and Missourri Rivers, just southeast of Omaha, lies the suburban community of Bellevue, Nebraska. Construction on the new Raptor Woodland Refuge is ongoing and will provide a facility for the conservation efforts of the local raptor recovery program. The Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area is a popular destination for hunters and anglers. Sarpy County Museum, run by volunteers and near the base, offers insight into the history of the area. Several golf courses are clustered in the center of the city boundaries, and the sport is popular among civilians and military residents. Those seeking a night out need only travel 15 minutes into downtown Omaha to enjoy big city sights, shopping, restaurants and entertainment. Bellevue is a progressive community that maintains a friendly, Midwestern charm and has a multitude of recreational opportunities and affordable housing.
