Twenty-five miles northeast of sunny San Bernardino is the small community of Big Bear Lake, California. Due to its elevated location in the San Bernardino Mountains, it is a popular vacation spot with many lovely look outs. Homes in this area tend to follow a woodland theme, with most nestled into tree-filled lots and styled after old-fashioned log cabins.
Big Bear Lake is a great place for nature lovers or anyone who wants to spend a lot of time outside. During warmer months, the lake this city is named for is a great spot for boating and fishing. It is nearly seven miles long and nearly a mile at its widest. There are also boat tours if you want to enjoy the lake with very little effort on your part. The San Bernardino National Forest offers many trails of varying degrees of difficulty for mountain bikes, horse rides or hiking. The mountains and elevation also create the perfect setting for skiing when the snows come, and there are two ski resorts nearby.
There is just as much to do indoors as outside, with activities ranging from sporty to creative. With two sporting centers, a barn turned into a bowling alley, and the landmark Gold Rush Mining Adventures; you and your family will have plenty to do when you want to stay and play indoors. If you want to work with your hands, then experience the thrill of making your own decorative ceramic items at Craft to Treasure. After your fun-filled day, why not stop at one of Big Bear Lake's four spas and wellness centers? There's also abundant nightlife at The Cave, a year-round venue with concerts and other performances. Don't forget to invite your extended family to tour the museums and shop at the craft stores. They can even take home a hand-crafted wooden bear to remember their stay.
